This program is intended for those who have found conventional English classes difficult and need to go over the basic practical aspects of English that will be needed on leaving school and starting work. The topics covered include: - Writing Sentences - Punctuation - Presentation and Layout - Abbreviations and Symbols - Finding Things Out - How to Deal with Forms The difference between speech and writing is demonstrated showing how to organise ideas and how simple sentences are constructed. Some useful spelling tips are given. The different types of the more common punctuation marks are given and examples indicate the uses and basic rules of when to use them. The conventions used in letter writing are shown together with suggestions for improving handwriting and the layout and appearance of written work, including posters and notices. Various abbreviations and symbols with their uses and meanings are demonstrated. A practical guide to completing forms of all kinds uses a wide variety of material as examples, and students are shown how to find out relevant information by looking things up in indexes, dictionaries and telephone directories, in libraries and on the Internet. The interactive Courseware included takes the user through a progressive, structured and differentiated sequence of work directly related to the National Curriculum. The course is extensive and caters for different levels of ability. The questions are put in many formats from simple multiple choice, multiple answer to cloze questions.
